How we handle your data

Case study

See it on a real video

We captioned our own founder video for Skinzy's Y Combinator application with CaptionMe. Press play: the captions on screen are the track CaptionMe made.

  • Transcribed and timed by CaptionMe from the video's own audio
  • Names spelled from the video's title and description
  • Published to YouTube as its own caption track

More than YouTube auto-captions

Names spelled right, your name on the track and your own style, on every upload.

Speaker labels and chapters, done for you

Every captioned upload also gets who's speaking and a chapter list for its description. No extra step, no extra tool.

Who's speaking, on screenEvery plan

Podcasts, interviews and panels are split by voice, and each turn starts with the speaker's name. Name them once in the editor; viewers never lose track of who said what.

Chapters and a description, draftedEvery plan

CaptionMe finds where your video changes topic, names each chapter and writes a short summary. Copy it into YouTube, or on paid plans have it added to the description for you, after your own text.

Captions that sound like your channel

Viewers can tell auto-captions from captions someone cared about. CaptionMe gets the details right on every upload, without you opening an editor.

Your name on the track

In the player's captions menu, viewers see your track under your name, not YouTube's auto-generated label.

Names and jargon spelled right

Your video's title, tags and description steer the transcriber, so names, brands and product terms come out right without typing a word list. Every fix you make in the editor teaches it your channel's vocabulary for the next upload.

Reach viewers in their languageComing soon

Pick languages once and every new upload will be translated cue for cue from your corrected captions, then published as its own track on paid plans: a real Hindi or Spanish track, not machine translation of auto-captions.

Captioning questions

Do I need to change how I upload?+

No. Connect your channel once. New public uploads are picked up automatically, usually within minutes. Unlisted videos can be captioned from your library with a click.

Will it replace my existing captions?+

No. CaptionMe adds its own caption track and only ever updates that track. Your other tracks stay as they are.

What happens to my audio?+

We download the audio only to transcribe it and delete it 24 hours later. Your captions stay until you delete them or your account.

Which languages are supported?+

More than 52, including English, Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese. CaptionMe detects the spoken language, or you can set it per channel in Settings.

How is this different from YouTube's automatic captions?+

YouTube's auto-captions are free but labelled "auto-generated", unstyled, and often misspell names. CaptionMe uses your title, description and channel vocabulary as spelling hints, publishes the track under your name, lets you style it, and emails it for review first if you like.

Can it label speakers on podcasts and interviews?+

Yes. Turn on speaker labels for a channel and every upload is split by who's talking, with each turn starting with the speaker's name ("Alex: …") or a ">>" mark, as you prefer. You name the speakers once in the editor, and can fix any caption's speaker there. It's on every plan.

Does CaptionMe make chapters for my videos?+

Yes. Every captioned video gets chapters, found where the topic changes and named after what's discussed, plus a short summary for the description. Edit and copy them on any plan; paid plans can add them to the YouTube description for you, after your own text. They follow YouTube's chapter rules, so they show up in the player.

Can I caption a video before it goes public?+

Yes. Scheduled and private uploads show up in your library. Upload the video file and CaptionMe captions it straight away and puts the captions on the YouTube video, so they're there the moment it goes live. Uploading the file also works for any other video.

Can I add subtitles in other languages?+

Translated tracks are coming soon. You'll pick languages once and every new upload will be translated cue for cue from your corrected captions, keeping the original timing, and published as its own track on paid plans. Today CaptionMe captions each video in its spoken language.

Does it work for Hindi and creators in India?+

Yes. CaptionMe transcribes Hindi and other Indian languages, and shows prices in rupees in India, with UPI and cards at checkout. Translating captions into Hindi is coming soon.

Does it caption YouTube Shorts?+

Yes. Shorts are uploads on your channel, so they're picked up and captioned like any other video, as a caption track viewers can turn on. CaptionMe doesn't burn captions into the video.

Do captions help my videos get found?+

Captions make a video usable with the sound off, and YouTube can read caption tracks. Accurate captions with names spelled right give it more to work with than auto-captions.

Can I caption more than one channel?+

Yes. Pro covers up to 3 channels and Studio up to 10, for creators and teams who run several.

How are minutes counted?+

By video length, rounded up to the next minute. If captioning fails, the minutes are given back.

What if I run out of minutes?+

Paid plans can add 100-minute packs that never expire, or move up a plan. Plan minutes reset on the 1st of each month.

Can I change or cancel my plan?+

Any time from the Billing page. Upgrades and downgrades are prorated, and a cancelled plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
